it's currently "whale watch" in kodiak. which means wesley studies whales in school and we're told there are grey whales out there in the ocean migrating through. this year we chose to go on a hike with the audobon society - and they directed us where to look. it was amazing to watch the spouts and backs roll out in the ocean. unfortunately, grey whales are rather difficult to capture with a camera.... i'm posting some other pictures from the weekend though. it was a wonderfully refreshing the sun is out, the snow is melting, we're outside being active, alaska is amazing weekend. you know what i'm referring to, i'm sure. so, we're all excited for summer coming along. there's still quite a bit of snow in kodiak due to a 26" weekend snowfall a couple weeks ago. but, if this weather keeps up, it'll melt. and anchorage is drying out nicely. so, the pictures - a little education: yes, kodiak has buffalo on the island. apparently other cattle type creatures were getting eaten by bears 40 years ago, so, they introduced the heartier buffalo, which now wander a portion of the road system. the pictures of the eagles were taking while watching grey whales - the eagles sat still for me. :) we hiked with a visiting friend - who enjoyed having alaska show itself off for her - it's always nice when it works out that way. and - yes, those deer are in our backyard - due to the recent fluke snowfall, they have no food, so, are hanging out near the ocean instead of the hills. and then - my flight back to anchorage topped the weekend off with redoubt (active ) volcano spewing steam as we flew by. it really was marvelous...
