New picasa pictures

so, we had a great trip down to utah/colorado. lots of mountain biking of course, and my friend amy and her friend came with us. we did one ride that starts at 10,400 ft in the La Salles, you ride up to 11,600 ft, then you descend down to the Colorado River at 5,000 ft. the fall colors were out in all their glory....amazing. check out the pictures! http://picasaweb.google.com/annkuip

150 miles!

so...what else but more biking pictures? some of you know - but Annie rode her bike 150 miles this past weekend in support of Multiple Sclerosis. thanks to those of you who donated...and others, you still actually can if you want to. anyhow - the ride was a lot of fun. we got rained on, yes, lots of rain. but, what can you expect from hope to seward? i rode with my friend Val and there were some other people i knew riding as well. there were aid stations every 15 miles with hot drink and food and one lady even cleaned my glasses for me! we were well taken care of.

what else is going on? well - Annie is now a certified yoga instructor! i plan on starting to teach at the church this winter, then possibly get on with the Alaska Club here in Anchorage.

Felix and I are headed out to Denver soon for our annual bike trip.

Wesley is in third grade - 8 years old! He's excited to be in school learning again.

One year of marriage!

So, we just celebrated our first year of marriage. We spent it in Kodiak together at Pasagshak, fishing the run of reds - and it's a huge run out there - schools of 30+ would swim past, and we caught more than we wanted. Wesley now has his own pair of waders (thanks to craigslist). He out-fishes most of the people on the river.

Our Kodiak weekend also involved putting in our front yard - we shoveled a dumptruck and 1/4 load of dirt by the wheelbarrow load to both front lawns - then we seeded it, and now we're just waiting for the grass to grow.

The bike trails are awesome out there. Felix said the other day he was tearing down a steep section and some hikers coming up the trail had saucers for eyes. Pretty cool. It was my first real chance to ride some of them - and they're a blast, for sure. And, Felix's friends just keep building more - and we all keep riding them!

wesley's anchorage week

we brought wesley to anchorage for a week this june. his week was full of activities: Crosspoint Kidscamp, movies at big anchorage theatres, and the elmendorf airshow. check out the pictures at http://picasaweb.google.com/annkuip

he and felix then took the ferry across to kodiak - with all of the furniture and decorations we've been collecting over the year. the house is more a home now, for sure. :)

here's annie in her first ever road bike race.....results will be posted tomorrow, but, i think i did under 30min - 9 miles - i think that might put me in the top 50? we'll see... anyhow - it went good, i started to bonk at the end until that lady passed me, so, that got me going again - you can see me behind her - determined.

spring has arrived! --- finally

so, it's finally looking like spring here for us. it hit a little sooner in kodiak, thankfully. i escaped out there last weekend and was able to hit the bike trails that felix has been raving about. even wesley has his own mountain bike now. soon, i'm sure, he'll be going out with us. here's a link to some pics of our trails out there - http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=399774 -- and no, that's not me riding, unfortunately. felix has found some other buddies to bike with when i'm not there. actually, it's only us and them and another guy who comes up sometimes in the summers - that's it! so, we're excited for them to get all thawed. wesley is excited about his bike, but, even more excited about the upcoming fishing season. he keeps asking his dad "when can we go fishing?" and telling me "man annie, i can't wait until the fish are here!" he's a pretty cool kid.

upcoming events - well, i have my first road bike race tomorrow. yes, i have a road bike now. and, i kinda like it. felix keeps teasing me saying "i'm just hoping this is a phase you'll grow out of." it sure beats not being able to do anything in this in between slushy muck trail season though! we're headed to southern utah the end of may on a, well, a bike trip of course. we'll be sure to take some pics down there. here's some recent pics of wesley and check out the link above to see felix biking kodiak. and in case you can't access the link - here's one of him looking especially cool....okay, two...
